You couldn't pay me to live in them.īack to to subject, my friends and I just have to meet up at regular spots or get togethers at our homes. The really wealthy areas in DC are just bland. Wealthier is not automatically better and the gentrification happening in this city is showing that. I'm actually willing to move east of the river just to be in a community that isn't just Starbucks on every corner. It isn't just forcing people out it is forcing all of the culture out. My partner and I are very fortunate that the effects of gentrification have not had a direct effect on us living in the city but, indirectly, it has. I love this city but the gentrification is out of control. I get things change and evolve but when it's forced it can really be a hard adjustment. For young gays, these types of venues are usually, not always, your way of finding other gays, meeting new friends and, often times, having one a very few places you can let your hair down, relax and have a good time without your sexuality being an issue. I stopped the club scene when I was much younger but it is very unfortunate these establishments are all gone.

Nations Nightclub- 1999-2006- After Tracks closed this became the popular gay club to dance and socialize. It has everything even a volleyball section outside. TRACKS DC- Mother of all east coast gay nightlife and the first casualty of DC gentrification dominated the scene for 15 years (1984-1999) It was so popular that straight club goers started to attend. I decided to make a list of the clubs that operated for years but have now closed over the last years, usually sold to developers to build over priced condos smh.

I feel sorry for the LGBT community coming up today because the "scene" really doesn't exist. The gay community today in the DC area have very little variety in nightlife or social venues, and this was before the pandemic. Gentrification ( started 1997) is soooo on the march that even White gay nightclubs could not escape its grasp. I was at a lil gathering and we got into a discussion about the vanishing of gay venues in the DC area over the last decade.
